Sarah Stubbs, M.D. aka Patient Champion

Dr. Sarah Stubbs has the compassion, courage, commitment, and curiosity that shine out as a respected and valuable member of her home town community as well as our Carilion commUNITY.  

To make a long story short, my 94 year old Mother became easily upset and adamant that she would not go outside our home for any reason.  I had called all but one family medicine practice in Roanoke and nearby locations. None would accept my Mom for a home visit.

A friend knew Dr. Sarah Stubbs and her care of home bound patients in the Franklin County area.  She contacted Dr. Stubbs on my behalf. Dr. Stubbs immediately said she would visit my Mom on Sunday, her day off.  However, the day before the visit Dr. Stubbs developed a nasty virus.  She did not withdraw her offer to help, but came as soon as she could without exposing my Mom. 

Dr. Stubbs visit allowed us to keep Mom comfortable and well cared for with Hospice during her last weeks.  Dr. Stubbs had compassion for my Mom’s condition, the commitment to meet my Mom’s needs even though she herself was recovering,  curiosity and courage to expand her commUNITY of caring outside of her geographic and routine care.
