Ronald McDonald Tab Top Collection & Recycling Program expands to 3 more Carilion buildings!

Submitted by mcsotelo on

If you have been into Tanglewood, ION, or the Cancer Center/Rehab building recently, you may have noticed the new addition of Ronald McDonald tab top collection houses! Thank you to a collaboration with Robins & Morton, we were able to have three more houses built to place in these buildings and collect soda can tabs for the Ronald McDonald house. Thank you to Karrie Moses, Kaitlyn Costa, Lisa Dishner, and Erika Trinkle in your help in making this possible.

How do I participated in this program?

Collect tabs from aluminum cans (soda, soup, tuna, etc.) and recycle them by placing them in this collection house. When the house is full, champions from the building will empty it and weigh the contents. The tabs will then be delivered to the Ronald McDonald house in Roanoke. The Ronald McDonald house will recycle the tabs and receive funds. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of SWVA is a locally funded and operated non-profit organization, that provides housing and programs that assist seriously ill children and their families that are in the hospital. The Ronald McDonald house provides housing and meals to approximately 18 families each day. It costs about $1,600 per day to run the house, and it is funded by donations and through the funds raised through their tab top recycling program.

We hope you will be able to participate in this program! Houses are also in place at CRMH, CNRV, CFMH, CRBH, and CRCH. If you have questions, please reach out to Marina Sotelo, Sustainability Program Manager - mcsotelo@carilionclinic.org
