It is my pleasure to announce that Carilion Clinic has received the Outstanding Organization Award from the Near Southwest Preparedness Alliance for 2020.  This award goes to an Organization that exemplifies outstanding contributions to regional healthcare emergency management, tangible support to the development of a regional effort; and high standards of cooperation and leadership with other community and regional emergency management partners.  http://nspa1.org/2020awards/

Our Story:

Carilion Clinic uses an all-hazards approach and a team of engaged leaders to support and collaborate with community partners, regional hospitals, local governments, higher education, healthcare coalitions and organizations, non-profits, Virginia Department of Emergency Management and many other organizations.  Carilion Clinic invests and promotes the National Incident Management System and the application of the Healthcare Incident Command System in order to be an integral partner in the response to disasters, exercises and pre-planned events.

Carilion Clinic's senior leadership team demonstrates engagement by investing in resources to make sure Carilion is secure and hardened against threats identified in the hazard vulnerability assessment. This ensures healthcare services are available to the entire community during disasters.

Carilion’s teams have been engaged in committees and work groups to develop preparedness plans such as pediatric disaster management and emerging infectious diseases to help strengthen community preparedness and response. Carilion Clinic also engages in community exercises to identify areas of opportunity between fire, EMS, police and the media so that when the disaster strikes, plans will merge to assure the best outcome for our community and patients. Carilion Clinic actively participated in multiple community exercises that focused on hazmat, reunification, mass casualties, slow surge, and supply chain disruption. Carilion Clinic’s preparedness efforts were also integral in maintaining economic and community safety by maintaining vital healthcare services during events such as power disruptions, severe weather, and a pandemic.  Carilion Clinic looks forward to continuing these efforts and partnerships to make sure our teams are safe and our patients receive the best patient care.

Thank you for a job very well done!
