Hotrods For Hospice Car Show volunteers WOW

Planning a new fund-raising event to support the patient care fund for Carilion Hospice in Franklin County is no easy undertaking, but three staff members (who jumped in to help the the fund-raising department) went above the call this year with Hotrods For Hospice.

Jewel LaClair, licensed massage therapist, conceived the idea and was the contact for most of the car community, including her husband, who became a sponsor. She ran countless errands, secured vendors, signs, and door prizes. All of this is clearly out of her job responsibilities as massage therapist. Jewel's work ethic is second to none.

Mary Riddle, manager of home care and hospice Franklin, engaged her entire family in the endeavor, volunteering her husband to roast 10 Boston butts to sell for BBQ and then engaging his band to volunteer to be the entertainment. His company also sponsored the event. Mary worked tirelessly all day at the “food court” making sure the car show made money on that venture.

Even after going through a job change and relocating his primary office in Roanoke, Tyler Lee, with community health and outreach, followed through with his commitment to organize logistics and help with manpower and the procurement of tables, tents, and chairs. His endless enthusiasm and eagerness to "get it done" kept the committee motivated throughout the process.

Because of these three folks and their Carilion values of community and commitment, Hotrods of Hospice 2020 is already in the making.
