From Chaplaincy to Chillers — Celebrating Tim Geiger’s Career Journey
A floof — as defined by Carilion's own Tim Geiger — is more than a roof. It's also a floor. It’s what keeps you dry and supports the critical weight that keeps a building running smoothly. In healthcare, that means the fans, chillers, air handlers, and miles of conduit that make patient care possible every day.
It’s also the perfect word to describe Tim himself — dependable, quietly brilliant, humorously quirky, and always carrying more than most people ever realize.
As Tim celebrates his retirement, we reflect on a career that’s spanned several decades, departments and buildings... chaplaincy, Medicare cost reporting, HVAC temperatures and pressures, electrical controls, water management, and decades of facility support. Along the way, he’s become one of Carilion’s most trusted and respected engineers — a person whose knowledge, humor, and humility have left a lasting impression on everyone who’s had the privilege to work with him.
Tim’s legacy goes well beyond systems and structures. He’s helped build a culture of care, curiosity, and craftsmanship that will continue to support our organization long after he hangs up his badge.
Thank you, Tim, for keeping our floofs — and all of us — supported.
