Congratulations to Jill Dayton on winning the DAISY Award!!

The DAISY Award was established in 1999 to celebrate and recognize the extraordinary care that nurses provide to patients and families.  Nurse Jill Dayton exemplifies the commitment and compassion of the DAISY Award in her work everyday at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  

Please take a moment to read her incredible nomination story: 

We currently have a patient who is the father of two small children, ages 3 and 5. The patient's wife brings the children to see him everyday. The family has seen many challenges over the past few years and now to have this young father in the hospital with Christmas fast approaching and unable to work, it is heartbreaking.
Jill Dayton, RN, had learned so much about this family while caring for the patient.

In December, Jill was off one day, but early in the afternoon she showed up with two Christmas Bags. She had learned the children had a few special toys they wanted - a fire truck and a medical set so they could help take care of their bed.

Jill is an amazing nurse, but the heart she has for her patients was certainly demonstrated in Jill's actions with this family. She brings the two children the toys they wanted and the smiles on the faces of the children, mother and father were priceless.

Jill saw more than a patient, she saw a family that needed kindness. She goes above and beyond to make sure our patients feel that they are what is most important to her.
She does these kinds of things with all her patients - a beautiful person inside and outside. A blessing to all that know her!
