Congratulations to Giselle "Jo" O'Rourke, CA on winning the BEE Award for 8SICU - CRMH!

Compassion for another person's struggle is a hallmark of a great nurse.  Please read how Jo interacted with a patient and brought about some amazing outcomes. 

"Jo" is a new hire Clinical Associate on our unit who just came off orientation last week.  While on orientation, I watched her provide the most caring/compassionate/gentle/patient/understanding care to her patients. One in particular, who had been with us for months and was a challenge. Jo stayed with her, talked to her, calmed her, day in and day out. This patient would refer to her as her RN at times. But last week, I walked into a room of a patient who has been confused, who doesn't speak English, scared, and somewhat combative. I saw Jo rubbing her head. She had pulled up a translator on her phone and was calmly talking to her. This patient has never been that calm. Three days later,  the patient is no longer combative nor has a sitter. The two of them also learned they both speak French over the weekend and have been having talks. The patient recently moved to US and woke up here confused and scared for weeks. Jo had patience. She was so kind and caring. I really feel Jo played a big part in her change recently. I just stood in the doorway and watched Jo with her. It was heartwarming to not have had experience with patience care, Jo has a gift!!
