Community Hospital OR Staff Go Above and Beyond
On April 1, the Dentistry Section brought an adult patient to CRCH OR for dental care under general anesthesia. The patient has severe autism and is nonverbal and combative. His parents struggle with ordinary day-to-day activities. This patient was resistant to shaving and grooming and had developed a wooly beard and head hair interfering with eating and hygiene. His parents asked if we could shave him and cut his hair while he was asleep. The OR nurses said "YES!" He further would not allow blood samples for testing that his doctors needed and refused a Tdap vaccine that had been ordered. You know what happened? ALL of that was accomplished during the case and his parents are SO appreciative. These staff live the Carilion Clinic value of Compassion:
- Chibale Zulu RN
- Dawn Jenkins RN
- Kyle Asbury RN
- Beth Weber, RPh
- Dr. Stephen Eason, Anesthesiology
