Collaboration Goes Beyond the Few!

ED Bridge to Treatment project was honored to receive the Shine Award for collaboration.  Unfortunately there are SO MANY deserving heroes on this project - not all could be listed in the nomination.  Outstanding folks in the ED, Outpatient Psychiatry, Community Outreach, Family Medicine, OB-GYN, HART Analytics - on every level from administrative senior leadership, to the practice managers (like our Kathy Markham in Psychiatry!), the HAAs who open the portal treatment on the outpatient shoreline of the bridge!  Other notable heroes are the care coordinators in the office-based opioid treatment (OBOT) programs in the Psychiatry ambulatory setting providing key intake/triaging services and the prescribers who work extra hard to accomplish our goal of rapid access to treatment.  Carilion has an expanding number of such OBOTs and other providers of medications for opioid use disorders in Family Medicine - so crucial for expanding Carilion's capacity to treat this devastating disease of an opioid use disorder.  Dr. John Burton and his team - including the case managers - led the charge to build this bridge to treatment.  Peer recovery specialists provide support and inspiration that has been found to make all the difference for achieving successful transitions in care for our patients struggling with the disease of an opioid use disorder. Even the attached photo leaves some of these key heroes out of the picture - please know how much each of you on this team is appreciated as a key contributor to this lifesaving collaboration.
