Collaboration around sustainability, recycling, and serving our patients leads to new bench at Riverside!

Submitted by mcsotelo on

Jenny Luhr, RN at the Riverside Infusion Center and 6 West Infusion Center, initiated soft plastics recycling in her department, through the Trex Soft Plastics recycling program. The team worked to collect soft plastics for recycling and when they achieved their goal of 500 pounds, they received a complimentary bench from Trex. Jenny said, “While the benches are a nice incentive, our primary goal is diverting waste from the landfill. Our team has really come together on this mission to reduce waste!”

Around the same time, Benny Casey, Guest Services Manager at Riverside, identified the need for a bench to be placed by the parking lot for patients to use when waiting for the shuttle or to rest when walking into the building. A collaborative effort between team members from the Infusion Center, Guest Services, Carilion Design Group, Sustainability, and Property Maintenance led to the Infusion Center’s bench being installed along with an informational sign, helping us to better serve our patients!

This work reflected Carilion’s commitment to our patients and our environment! Well done!
