Because of Carilion Employees, Another Successful Plant Sale!

Carilion employees across the organization have worked tirelessly and heroically in recent months--which makes their enthusiastic support of this week's annual Mother's Day Plant Sale even more gratifying. Because of a welcome surge of pre-orders, we oversold our allotted 400 plants and had to put in a rush order for additional plants...and sold all but two of them. (For any takers, there are two rosemary plants in the volunteer office on 1 South!) This year's sale netted nearly $1,900 for the hotel-assistance program that helps provide lodging for patient families. The plant sale is sponsored by Volunteer Services and Carilion Foundation, but its success in a difficult year was a collaboration of many. Without the usual crew of volunteers running the sale, a special thanks to Guest Services manager Frank Bryant and parking team members Tom Conner and Rickey McKinney, who helped unload plants, sort pre-orders and then provided curbside delivery service to buyers. Additionally, a huge thanks to Helen Matheson, (pictured) a Westlake employee and Carilion volunteer who has helped with the plant sale for years and is always a warm and steadying force. And again, thank you to our Carilion family who opened its heart even wider during this difficult time to help others.
