A national honor for Community Health and Outreach

Our Community Health and Outreach department helped us earn national accolades for community outreach and clinical expertise. The American Hospital Association (AHA) named Carilion one of five recipients of the 2020 AHA Dick Davidson NOVA Award. The prestigious award recognizes us for our collaborative efforts to improve community health status through the health care we provide, economic programs, and social initiatives.

"Improving community health is integral to our mission, and some of our important work takes place beyond our walls," President and Chief Executive Officer Nancy Howell Agee said. "It's gratifying to receive recognition for this significant work."

AHA recognized Community Health and Outreach for its work with Healthy Roanoke Valley (HRV), established in 2012 in partnership with United Way of Roanoke Valley and several other local organizations to address Roanoke's health disparities. We launched the Fresh Foods Rx and Pathways Hub programs as part of HRV.

"Having such great mission-minded community partners at the table together, planning and improving the community's health, is making a difference, " said Vice President of Planning and Community Development Shirley Holland. "We are so grateful for this partnership."
