A Model of Interprofessional Collaboration

A recent project to ensure safe patient care was exemplary of interprofessional collaboration.  Most ED patients have orders for cardiac monitoring but were traveling to Imaging destinations for exams without being monitored.  While compliance and others confirmed this was acceptable if there was a provider order that the patient may travel without monitoring, the ED stepped up and provided a resource to monitor to ensure continuity of care as a stop-gap measure until we confirmed the practice was compliant.  After compliance research, a solution was generated in the form of a question concerning cardiac monitoring that will print on Imaging requests in which the provider decides if the patient requires continued monitoring while in Imaging. 

I would like to recognize the following contributors to a model of interprofessional collaboration:

Courtney Crouse- brought forth the problem about the bricks not being removable.

CT & ED staff - these folks should get recognized every single day for the magnificent patient care they provide as well as their dedication.

James Crowley- escalating to Imaging Quality and Ashley Ikenberry/Gary Meadows and working alongside Imaging Quality to devise a solution

Ashley Ikenberry/Gary Meadows- understanding the concern and escalating to compliance, also providing a resource to monitor patients as a stop-gap.

Dawn Gentry- researching the question from a compliance standpoint & ensuring the process meets regulations.

Chris Monk- looking at the concern from a global perspective and ensuring the process meets inpatient standards.
