We're Growing! We Now Have a Dedicated Suite for Midwifery Services

Next week, we will open our first Roanoke-based clinic dedicated exclusively to Midwifery Services—marking a significant milestone for women’s health in our region. Designed to care for women throughout their lives, the practice will serve patients from adolescence through menopause and beyond. A ribbon-cutting event took place on Tuesday, April 28; the clinic will open to patients on Monday, May 4.

The 2,345-square-foot clinic, is located at 102 Highland Avenue, Suite 301 in the Medical Office Building behind CRCH.

About Midwifery Services

Midwifery visits are designed to allow for more time with patients—on average 10 minutes longer than traditional appointments—supporting personalized, relationship-based care.

“This new clinic underscores our commitment to accessible, relationship-based care for women across their lifespan. Expanding midwifery services allows us to better support the diverse needs of our patients and deliver personalized care to our community” said Tristi Metcalf, MD, Chair of Women’s Health. “Midwives empower patients through education and support, ensuring safe, respectful, and culturally appropriate care. We treat pregnancy, birth, and menopause as natural life events rather than illnesses,” says Tina Johnson, CNM, director of Midwifery Services.

Our midwives provide comprehensive care for pregnancy and beyond, including annual exams, cancer screenings, family planning, and menopause care. They collaborate closely with OB/Gyns and other women’s health specialists to ensure patients receive seamless, high-quality care at every stage of life.

One Patient's Story

Savanna Brownlow, one of our patients, shared her story at the ribbon-cutting event:

"These midwives didn’t just care for me medically. They cared for me as a whole person. They listened when I had concerns. They understood my anxiety and never brushed it off. During some of the most difficult moments of my labor, delivery, and postpartum experience, they were right there beside me. They held my hand. They wiped my tears. They saw me at my most vulnerable, from head to toe and everything in between, and never once made me feel anything less than cared for.

I gave birth to my big, beautiful son, Jack Walter Brownlow, via C-section, and what followed was not an easy road. I faced serious complications with my incision that led to multiple hospital stays, 11 days in total, and going under for another surgery. It was a time filled with fear, uncertainty, and a lot of emotions. ...

And even when I was technically no longer under their care, they still showed up.
Isabel stood by me, holding my hand while I cried in the OBGYN office as they reopened my incision using only lidocaine. Later that night, I was back in the hospital with pain and spiking fevers. Daniela and another midwife came to check on me, just to make sure I was okay.

A few days later, I needed another surgery, and Tina came by with warm hugs and even brought treats her husband had made, which, at that point, truly felt like a five-star meal.

And if there were others who visited and I’m not remembering, please know it’s not personal. I was a little traumatized and very medicated at the time, but I want to take a moment to thank you too. ...

The details of pregnancy and childbirth can become a blur over time, but I will never forget the way these women cared for me. Their knowledge, their professionalism, and their ability to connect on a human level is something truly special.

They are not just medical professionals. They are advocates, supporters, and steady hands in moments that can feel overwhelming. They care about their patients far beyond what’s written in a chart. ...

Today isn’t just about opening a building. It’s about opening the door for more women to have the kind of experience I had, care that meets you where you are, supports you through it all, and stays with you long after you leave your appointment."
