We Have a New Blood Services Partner
We have a new blood services partner.
We’ve collaborated with The Blood Connection (TBC) for our blood product needs. Our agreement begins on Monday, January 1, 2024.
TBC is a non-profit community blood center with 61 years of experience. TBC serves more than 120 hospitals in Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.
TBC will open its first Virginia office and donation center in Roanoke in early 2024. They will help us care for our patients by hosting internal and external blood drives.
Blood products collected in local drives will stay in our region, which allows donors to feel confident that their donations are helping their community and neighbors.
“Carilion is excited about our partnership with The Blood Connection,” said Steve Arner, president and chief operating officer. “TBC is dedicated to supplying our local blood product needs and being involved in the community.”
“We encourage blood donors to support TBC’s future blood drives in our hospitals and throughout our communities," he continued, "to help ensure our region has adequate blood to help us care for our patients.”
Despite national blood shortages, TBC has been a reliable, dedicated partner for hospitals. The organization is committed to ensuring blood products are readily available through volunteer blood donors.
TBC adheres to the same high-quality standards as we do. It is regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB).
“We’re honored to partner with Carilion to provide these lifesaving blood products to local patients,” said Delisa English, president and chief operating officer of TBC. “Local blood donors make the difference in sustaining the community blood supply and preventing blood shortages. We’re beginning efforts to collect blood products in the community and are seeking blood donors and organizations willing to support this partnership and the local blood supply by sponsoring blood drives.”

We are partnering with The Blood Connection (TBC) on blood services.
This is TBC’s first blood services partnership with a Virginia health care system.
All TBC blood products collected in our hospitals and communities will stay in our region.
