Meet Our Moxi Robots!
On Thursday, Jan. 11, CGCH added two new robotic team members to their staff!
The Moxi robots, designed by Diligent Robotics, will start rolling down the hallways to learn the space and work with front-line teams to get oriented to our needs.
They are the first of their kind in our entire region and are acting as a pilot program for our system.
What Moxi Robots Do
Once the Moxi robots have gotten acclimated, they'll start helping clinical care teams with non-patient facing tasks. These include:
- Delivering lab samples that are normally hand-delivered.
- Running patient supplies and items that may have been left for a patient at the front desk.
- Fetching items from central supply that aren’t normally stocked on care units.
- Distributing PPE and lightweight equipment.
Having the robots carry out these kinds of tasks will allow care teams to maximize their time with our patients.
“We are excited to welcome the Moxi robots to our team at CGCH," said Kristie Williams, vice president of CGCH. "Moxi will support our team by allowing front-line staff to maximize their time at the bedside, prioritizing the critical work of caring for our patients. We are thrilled to be piloting the program for Carilion to help determine the potential addition of Moxi robots in the future.”
The Future of Moxi Robots
Our teams will evaluate the potential systemwide application of additional Moxi robots in the future.
Taking Pictures With Moxi Robots
When a Moxi robot is not on a delivery, you and your team can snap a quick photo with it. Please be mindful of our HIPAA policy: Do not include any patients or patient data in the photo background in case you share your photo on social media.

CGCH is adding two new robotic team members!
The Moxi robots allow staff to spend more time with patients by performing non-patient-facing tasks.
They are part of a systemwide pilot program and are the first two staff support robots in the region.
