Dr. Rosemarie Fernandez Named Interim Institutional Research Officer
Chair of Emergency Medicine Rosemarie Fernandez, MD, has been named interim institutional research officer effective immediately. In this role, she will lead our growing research enterprise while continuing to serve as chair of Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Fernandez joined Carilion Clinic and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine earlier this year from the University of Florida, where she was executive vice chair for the Department of Emergency Medicine and research director for the UF Center for Experiential Learning and Simulation.
An accomplished clinician scientist, who has served as principal investigator on multiple federal grants supported by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the Department of Defense, Dr. Fernandez has more than 20 years’ experience leading clinical, research and educational initiatives in academic medicine and previously collaborated with our team at the Center for Simulation, Research and Patient Safety.
She will work with Lana Wahid, MD, medical director of Inpatient Clinical Trials and vice chair for Research in the Department of Medicine, and Mike Wilson, MD, associate institutional research officer, to develop our next steps in research governance and growth.
Rosemarie Fernandez, MD, has been named interim institutional research officer, effective immediately.
She will continue as chair of Emergency Medicine while leading our research enterprise.
In partnership with Lana Wahid, MD, and Mike Wilson, MD, Dr. Fernandez will help guide the next phase of research governance and growth.
