The Department of Orthopaedics proudly participated in the Southwest Plane Pull supporting Special Olympics Virginia! 

With a team of 24 strong, they raised over $2,700 and shaved more than a second off last year’s time — proving that when we pull together, we soar higher. 

Thank you to everyone who supported this incredible cause and helped make a difference in the lives of Special Olympics athletes across Virginia!

We want to take a moment to recognize Shakia Hunt for the incredible work she does every single day here at our facility.

The bathrooms on the third floor, down the hall from the cafeteria, are one of the busiest areas—and they’re known to be a challenge. But thanks to Shakia, they are always spotless and well-maintained. Her attention to detail and dedication are truly exceptional.

From August 2024 to August 2025 the surgical service team has held the top hand hygiene spot, and they have held on to their little friend, Prints the frog. Infection control celebrates this amazing team for all their hard work and dedicate to providing excellent care and do what they can to prevent infections. Remember, Friction Rubs Out Germs!

Congratulations to Violet Pollock for completing her PTCB Regulatory Compliance Certificate.  This certification showcases expert knowledge of regulatory compliance, including understanding of pharmacy laws, regulations, legal requirements, and practice standards.  Not only did Violet complete the certification, she passed with 100%.

The imaging team at CFMH is proud to recognize Aija Saul for her exceptional attention to detail and dedication to patient safety. Aija’s expertise and vigilance have directly contributed to improved patient outcomes and resource stewardship:

She identified a foreign body on a CT scan that had been overlooked by the radiologist. By collaborating with the ED provider, she ensured the patient received timely and appropriate care.

I could not be happier to share this info on the progression of a pt on 9W.  The pt had been in the hospital for over 60 days and after a major trauma.  The last 3o days or so was on 9W.  When he first arrived to 9W he was not talking, eating or walking.  Within 24hrs we had him pivoting to the chair with assistance.  By the time he left he was able to start walking with assistance, was talking to us in full sentences, and starting to eat again.  The day he left we gave him a big send off with all staff lining the halls and applauding him as he rolled out.
