What is RQI?
RQI is a blended education that uses online learning modules and skills sessions to renew life support education at quarterly intervals.
When can I complete my RQI education?
RQI education can be completed at just about any time.
Online education can be completed using any device with access to Cornerstone.
The simulation stations are available in all Carilion hospitals, Tanglewood CTDC, and mobile RQI carts will be rotating throughout the practices, ambulatory sites and Wellness Centers.
No appointments are necessary.
How to obtain an initial AHA certification
To obtain your initial certification, register for one of the AHA RQI classes:
- For ACLS, register for LSE200L-RQI
- For BLS, register for LSE100L-RQI
- For PALS, register for LSE210L-RQI
At the end of class, you will be assigned the RQI module.
For BLS, you will have an opportunity to complete the module and skills sessions at the end of class.
You need to complete BLS modules before ACLS and/or PALS to receive your ecards.
How will I complete my AHA renewal certification?
You will receive the RQI education in Cornerstone for each of your AHA disciplines.
For BLS, you will complete a cognitive assessment and skills validation using a simulation station.
For ALS and PALS, you will complete a cognitive assessment.
How long will it take to complete my renewal?
For BLS, ACLS, and PALS, each renewal will take approximately 25 minutes.
Can I opt to take an instructor-led class?
Attending an instructor-led class does not exempt you from the RQI requirements.

What if I need assistance completing my RQI education?
If you need assistance completing your RQI education, schedule time with a life support educator in the RQI Support appointment calendar.
What if I do not complete my RQI education before the end of the quarter?
We hope this does not occur.
If you did not complete your RQI education before the end of your quarter, your AHA eCredential has expired and is no longer compliant.
To re-certify your eCredential you must complete the past due and current quarter to proceed.
Noncompliance may result in disciplinary action.

What if I am unable to complete the skills requirement for my RQI certifications?
If you are unable to complete your RQI requirements, please work with your leader and HR Business Director to discuss applicable accommodations.
I am a new employee with a current AHA ecard. Will I need to attend an instructor-led course before starting RQI?
No. Employees with current AHA certifications will be enrolled in RQI.
If you would like assistance from a Life Support Educator for your first quarter, you may schedule a 1:1 with a Life Support educator in the RQI Support appointment calendar.
I am a traveler and need to renew my AHA certification. Can I participate in RQI?
At this time, international and Carilion internal travelers will renew their certifications using RQI. Domestic travelers will continue to work with their agencies to purchase a course enrollment in a traditional recertification class. Carilion offers traditional classes for travelers through Carilion Direct.

Can any employee within Carilion complete their life support education using RQI?
Yes, all employees within Carilion will complete their AHA life support certification using RQI.
