Extraordinary Heart for Service, Captain Paul King

Winter weather often creates a unique set of challenges for our staff working in home care. Navigating the roads and entering snow covered driveways to care for patients can be tricky, to say the least. On Wednesday, January 19th, one of our CNRV Home Health nurses was unable to reach a patient to perform his wound care. The patient’s road had been cleared, but the plow essentially created a barricade of snow across the patient’s long driveway not allowing her to enter. The nurse tried to drive through the snow, but was unsuccessful.  Another challenge was that there was nowhere for her to safely park her truck on the main road in order for her to walk up the snow covered driveway.   This home belonged to an elderly patient who was physically unable to clear his driveway himself and had no family who could assist.

After exploring other options with no luck, the nurse had decided she was going to go home, get her snow shovel, and try and clear the driveway herself. At that time, Captain Paul King was contacted to see if he had a contact or knew of anyone else who might could help.  Without hesitation, Paul jumped into action and within the hour Paul had personally gone to this residence and cleared the driveway for us. Paul also asked if he needed to check in on this patient while he was there!

Thanks to Paul and his heart for service this patient received the care he needed. His care wasn’t delayed. Our home health nurse remained safe and this patient’s driveway was safely cleared.  Our Home Care team is grateful for Paul and his service.  With the world feeling so heavy at times especially as the pandemic continues,  the stress of our jobs can feel unrelenting. It’s important that we continue to still see the good in others by recognizing those that make our days a little brighter, our path a little easier, and our load a little lighter…That is Captain King
