Roanoke’s 2021 Citizen of the Year, Dr. Hartman
Congratulations to Roanoke’s 2021 Citizen of the Year, Cheri Hartman, Ph.D., announced recently by Roanoke Mayor Sherman Lea.
Dr. Hartman was selected for the award based her science-driven approach to prevent school dropouts, teen pregnancy, obesity and substance misuse. She spearheaded creation of several successful programs including the Community Youth program for at-risk children, Carilion Clinic’s Back on Track program that treats adolescents with addiction issues, Carilion ED Bridge to Treatment program, and related peer recovery specialist program and adult OBOT programs for substance disorder treatment. In addition to her work with Carilion Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, Dr. Hartman also serves as a faculty member and researcher at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.
