Housekeeper teaches coworkers sign language
Carlotta Parker, aka "Cat", came to CNRVMC just several weeks ago working in housekeeping. She left San Diego, CA to come to Virginia to be near family. Cat is deaf and in a world of masks has to read lips. Ive enjoyed her teaching me some sign language and she is very encouraging to say how well I am learning although it is really her that is a good teacher, patient and always happy. Besides adjusting to the new culture of Virginia, her new job and how to best communicate with her co-workers, her car broke down and she is living at a hotel until she can find an apartment. COURAGE best describes her. She is a hard worker and says that she really enjoys cleaning, it is her thing she says as well as enjoying caring for people and her pets - an American pit bull terrier named Athena that is a rescue dog and her guinea pig, Licorice. Cat also enjoys art and photography. She shows true Courage in taking on all the challenges she has and her love of working at Carilion is apparent.
