Honoring our Vietnam Veterans at CFMH Hospice

Carilion Franklin Hospice celebrated Welcome Home Vietnam War Veterans Day on Monday, March 29. A wreath and display were displayed in the lobby of the CFMH medical office building for the week, along with a proclamation issued by Gov. Ralph Northam designating March 29, 2021, as Vietnam War Veterans Day. This day is part of a national effort to recognize the men and women who were denied a proper welcome upon return home more than 40 years ago.

The We Honor Veterans Programs at each of our Carilion Hospices supports and pursues collaboration with local veteran organizations as well as in-depth staff training with the goal of working to increase access and improve the quality of care for veterans in the community. Carilion Franklin Hospice is working towards the highest level in the We Honor Veterans program through the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. Each of our hospice veteran patients is recognized with a special ceremony which includes visits with veteran volunteers when available, a certificate of appreciation for their service, and a lap quilt hand made and donated by volunteers.

Providing our veterans with compassionate care as they reach the end of their lives is one of many ways that our Carilion Franklin Hospice team is committed to Carilion's mission to provide quality and compassionate care to those entrusted to us.
