Successful heart transplant from DCD Organ Donor Patient - a FIRST in the Commonwealth

CRMH became the first facility in the state to successfully procure the heart of a Donation After Circulatory Death (DCD) Organ Donor that lead to a successful transplantation.

A small ceremony was held on 2/19/21 to recognize the leadership and staff of 9SICU and Respiratory Therapy for their care of a recent organ donation patient that resulted in this monumental achievement. Certificates and an anatomical heart lapel pin were given in appreciation.

During the ceremony, Meg Scheaffel CNO stated that "It is fitting that during American Heart Month we recognize the staff of 9 South ICU for their work and collaboration with LifeNet Health to make this case a success".

Congratulations to all the staff involved in this case: 9SICU staff, Dr. Michael Widd, Dr. Yunan Wang, Dr. Umar Sofi, Dr. Edmundo Rubio, Dr. Frank Biscardi, Operating Room staff, Respiratory Therapy, Hospital Chaplaincy and others.
