It's Time To Get Rid of Your Unused Medication!

Submitted by gsrader on

Saturday, Oct. 24 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Do you have old medications at home? Dispose of them safely by participating in an upcoming drug take back event.

These events make sure the medicine doesn't cause harm to others—unused prescriptions can be stolen, accidentally consumed by children or pets or can harm the water supply if flushed or put down a drain.

On Saturday, Oct. 24, you can turn in expired or unused medications to be destroyed by local law enforcement officers in an environmentally safe way. This service is free and anonymous.

Events will take place at various sites throughout the area. To find a collection site near you or for more information, visit the Take Back Day website and search for a location by city or zip code.

You can also dispose of medications at our MedSafe kiosks, located at each of our hospitals and retail pharmacies. More locations and details can be found on the Drug Take Back Day event on Inside Carilion.

For more information about Drug Take Back Day or our MedSafe kiosks, contact Chad Alvarez, Retail Pharmacy, at cealvarez@carilionclinic.org.
