Carilion Sustainability Leadership Award

Did you, your department, a coworker, or another department recently complete an initiative or project that lead to a positive impact on the environment? If so, complete a nomination or application for the Sustainability Hero or Sustainability Hero Unit Award!
Sustainability Hero (individual) and Sustainability Hero Unit Awards are peer selected awards for any Carilion Clinic individual, unit or department that champions sustainability above and beyond the call of duty. They take accountability of their role in helping Carilion advance environmental responsibility, save costs to the health system, and prioritize energy, water and waste conservation. Examples include:
- Reducing paper by starting a department-wide "Print Less" challenge
- Increasing supply returns on a nursing unit through implementation of a new process
- Educating coworkers on ways to reduce energy usage
- Switched from purchasing disposable cutlery, plates and cups for office kitchen to reusable
The Sustainability Department and a panel of judges will vote on deserving individuals, departments, and units to receive the award based on the number of various cost savings, budget maintenance, and use of Sustainability initiatives implemented on their unit.
