Trestman Selected NAMI Exemplary Psychiatrist

Robert Trestman, M.D., Ph.D., chair of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at Carilion Clinic, was selected to receive the 2020 NAMI Exemplary Psychiatrist Award. NAMI stands for the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Dr. Trestman was nominated by Adrienne Kennedy, president of the NAMI board of directors. This year's awards were given to psychiatrists noteworthy for going the extra mile and who have made substantial contributions to NAMI Affiliate, NAMI State Organization or national NAMI activities. Award winners are recognized for their advocacy for access to care and research funding, community education programs or other NAMI priorities. Winners have also provided comprehensive treatment to people with mental illness including medical, rehabilitative and social needs or have taken the time to educate people whose lives are affected by mental illness. Daniel H. Gillison, Jr., CEO of NAMI, wrote to Trestman; "Thank you for your dedication to improving the lives of people living with mental illness."
