Things To Know If You're Working From Home

Submitted by abshaver on

As we work to flatten the pandemic curve, more of you may be working remotely. Here are some tips to make the transition easier if you are preparing to work from home:

1. Change your Active Directory password before you begin working remotely.

It's easiest to change your AD password when you're in a Carilion facility.

If your password expires while you’re offsite, you may not be able to log into your laptop. If that happens, you will need to bring the laptop to your work location and connect it to the network directly to synchronize your new password.  If your password expires and you can't come to your work location, contact the Technology Service Center by phone at 540-224-1599 or online at edison.CarilionClinic.org.

2. If you don't already have it, install the Imprivata ID app on your phone.

The Imprivata ID app enables you to access Carilion sites and programs when you're outside of the Carilion network.

For instructions on installing and using Imprivata ID, check out this job aid.

3. Update your phone number so people can reach you.

Don't forward your office phone calls to your mobile phone. This over-utilizes network resources. Instead, update your voicemail message to indicate the best number to reach you.

Here’s a suggested script:

"Hi, this is [name], [job role] at Carilion Clinic. I am currently using a different phone number. Please call me at [cell phone number]. Thank you.”

Be sure to update the phone number in your email signature as well.

4. Learn how to access your office voicemail from home.

If you are already working remotely, you may have missed some calls. Here's how to access your voicemail:

  1. Dial 540-224-4199
  2. Press #
  3. Enter your 5-digit office extension number and press #
  4. Enter your voicemail password and press #
  5. Follow prompts to retrieve messages

After you retrieve your messages, be sure to update your voicemail message with your mobile number.
