Learn How to Apply for Financial Help Through the Employee Emergency Fund

In an emergency, we know we can count on each other. That’s the thinking behind our Lend a Hand Employee Emergency Fund that helps employees and their families recover from financial hardships after a fire, accident, illness or other unexpected setback.

Now, if you have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic, you can get help through the fund, thanks to expanded criteria that include statewide and national crises. Up to $600 per employee is available to help pay utilities, rent or other basic needs.

“The coronavirus has resulted in the loss of income due to business closures as well as unforeseen expenses such as childcare now that schools are closed,” said Katherine Strickland, chief development officer of the Carilion Clinic Foundation, which oversees the fund. “We want to make sure employees who are struggling get the help they need.”

The fund was created in 2013 through the generous gifts of employees and we contribute to it each year through our annual Our CommUNITY campaign and other initiatives. By the end of 2019 more than 330 employees benefited from awards totaling $247,215.
