Water Rescue

  On Sunday, November 3, 2019, Carilion Police officers Sgt. Mark Gilbert, Police Officer Marshall Hamilton, Security Officer Pete Wethington, Security Officer Bill Ward and Police Officer Frank Harris responded to reports of a person in the Roanoke River adjacent to the Riverwalk Parking Garage.  Upon arrival, officers observed a person being pulled to the bank by a citizen who had entered the ice cold water.  Carilon Police and citizens formed a human chain to extract the victim from the river and up the steep embankment onto the Greenway Path where EMS medical assistance had been summoned.  The patient was revived and transported to the hospital for treatment.  A BIG WOW to these officers and the citizens who combined their efforts and risked their own safety to come to the aid of another.  Outstanding job by this highly dedicated and professional team!
