Carilion Dining and Nutrition Services launches new VTC Dietetic and Nutrition Internship Program

Carilion Dining & Nutrition Services is excited to announce a new Virginia Tech Carilion venture. We are partnering with the Virginia Tech Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise (HNFE) to issue a Master of Science Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics to prepare graduates to become Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs).

This is the only accredited program of its kind in the state of Virginia and one of five of the first cohorts in the United States to enroll students in this model curriculum. Students who complete the program will receive a Master of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and a verification statement that provides eligibility to sit for the RDN registration exam.

Carilion Clinic will offer a system-wide array of supervised experiential learning sites in clinical, management, and community areas to prepare 20 dietetic interns each year for entry-level practice. Each intern will demonstrate competence in these areas during the 900-hour supervised learning experience with our Registered Dietitian Nutritionists, managers and other staff serving as Intern Preceptors. 

Jeannine Simon, is the new VTC Dietetic Internship Manager under the guidance of Susan Carter, Director of Nutrition Services and Pat Bird, Senior Director of Dining & Nutrition Services.

The first Clinical Dietitians Preceptor training was held Wednesday,August 2st., in preparation for Fall Interns. Thanks to Jeannine Simon, Internship Manager and Kristin Chang, Director, Nutrition and Dietetics--VT Department of Human Nutrition  Foods and Exercise, for preparing all educational materials necessary for training.
