Outstanding Save
Jessica Hylton, RN was evaluating her pt on 5West when she noticed some subtle differences in their condition. It is their protocol that if a pt alarms on the Rothman Index they are to use the Sepsis tool they are currently piloting; however, because Jessica was concerned, she decided to screen her pt via the Sepsis tool, even though the pt did not alarm on the Peratrend. The Sepsis tool flagged the pt for sepsis. She immediately called the pt's physician and Clinical Administrator to come evaluate the pt at bedside. The findings warranted transfer to the ICU. Jessica's intuition and due diligence led to this pt receiving speedy invention, avoiding an emergent incident and possibly a catastrophic event. Through her actions, Jessica has shown superior service skills in assessment and advocacy and exemplifies the Carilion Core Values. Job Well Done!!!
