Support Fellow Employees Facing Hardships
Life can change in the blink of an eye. Unexpected medical events, death of a family member, fires, and accidents can create financial hardships. Recognizing that emergencies can happen at any time to anyone, the Carilion Clinic Foundation created the Employee Emergency Fund 13 years ago with a goal to help employees and their families recover financially after an unexpected setback.
"Being part of the Employee Fund Committee has given me a deep sense of gratitude," said Amanda Robertson, nursing unit director at CFMH. "In many ways, the fund serves as an extra layer of support when life takes an unforeseen turn. As healthcare professionals, we dedicate our lives to caring for others, and through these donations, we are able to extend that same compassion and care to our coworkers when they need it most."
Since the fund was created in 2013, the Foundation has awarded 579 employees with more than $517,000.
"As employees, we are so blessed to have the employee emergency fund available to us," said an anonymous Carilion employee. "The fund really helped me while my husband was suffering through stage 4 cancer, and I had to stay out of work to take care of him. The fund assisted me again when my child passed away. The major bills, such as my mortgage, were taken care of so I could focus on more important things."
To help fellow colleagues during tough times, donate during the Carilion Cares, I Care campaign now through Oct. 31. You can donate by payroll deduction, credit card, or check. Donate $52 or more ($2 per pay period) to receive a long-sleeved Carilion Cares t-shirt (while supplies last)!
