Carilion Children's is Nationally Recognized for its Commitment to Pediatric Cardiac Arrest Survival by the AHA

Carilion Children's has received the American Heart Association's Target: Survival quality achievement award for its commitment to delivering high-quality, science-backed care for patients who experience in-hospital cardiac arrest, helping improve survival rates. In-house cardiac arrest remains a major clinical and quality of care challenge in U.S. hospitals.  

The Target: Survival program was developed to highlight the number of lives saved by hospitals that consistently follow the most current, research-based treatment guidelines as outlined by the AHA.  The program evaluates patient survival following in-hospital cardiac arrest and adjusts for multiple factors, including cardiac arrest rhythm, event location within the hospital and prior illness severity.  Awarded sites achieve survival rates that place them in the top 40% of all U.S. hospitals participating in the Get With The Guidelines - Resuscitation.
