A Guide on Requisitions and Ordering in Workday

Submitted by aerose on

What is a Requisition?

A requisition is how you request goods or services before they are purchased. Most purchases require a Purchase Order (PO). When you submit a requisition, you are asking for approval to purchase goods or services before they are ordered.

Remember: The PO should be created before ordering or receiving items – not after an invoice arrives.

Step 1: Creating the Requisition

  1. In Workday, select Create Requisition
  2. Open Requisition Details
  3. Click Edit Details

Step 2: Choosing the Requesting Entity

Choose the right Requesting Entity. The Requesting Entity tells the system where you work.

You can search by:

  • Facility name (example: CRMH)
  • Unit name
  • Address
  • General location

Select your actual location or unit.

Step 3: Ship To and Deliver To

Once you select the requesting entity, Ship To and Deliver To automatically fill in.
Do not change these fields; changing these fields can delay or misroute your order.

Step 4: Start the Requisition

  • Save your details
  • Click Start Requisition

Step 5: Search for the Item

Before using a Non-Catalog request:

  1. Search the Item Catalog
  2. Select the item if it is listed
  3. Enter quantity and add to cart

Step 6: Non-Catalog for Unlisted Items

If the item you are requesting is not listed in the Item Catalog, use Non-Catalog.
