Another successful community electronics recycling event!
On Saturday, March 28th, Carilion Clinic’s Sustainability Department held its 5th Community Electronics Recycling Event. This drive-through event was attended by 760 cars and collected 32,885 pounds of electronics for recycling! Every time we hold one of these events, we receive positive feedback from the community and comments that they are thankful that this provides an opportunity to dispose of these materials in a safe, secure and environmentally responsible manner.
Thank you to the 25+ volunteers who spent their Saturday morning helping with this event. Volunteers directed traffic and unloaded recyclables from cars and we received multiple comments about how smooth and easy the process was.
In total, our 5 events have recycled 165,369 pounds of electronics!
Once the material has been sorted and categorized by the recycler, we will learn the total amount this event raised. These funds will be used towards creating secure bike parking on Carilion campuses, promoting more environmentally friendly commuting.
