Radford University Begins Planning Phase for Academic Health Sciences Building in Roanoke
Radford University is starting to gather input on plans for a new building expected to bring their Roanoke-based healthcare students under one roof. This is part of their 6-year strategic plan and will mark an important milestone in their role as a premier destination for healthcare education and talent development in our region.
This is the initial design and planning phase for the space, so additional details about facility location, scope, and timeline are not yet available.
Our collaboration with Radford University reached new heights in 2019, when Carilion’s Jefferson College of Health Sciences merged with Radford University, creating Radford University Carilion (RUC), housed at CRCH. RUC’s nursing program is one of the largest in Virginia, playing a critical role in educating, training, and retaining nursing talent close to home. Some additional Radford programs are also offered at the Roanoke Higher Education Center.
Now, Radford University has kicked off the initial design and planning phase, engaging with students, faculty, and staff to capture a wide range of backgrounds, perspectives and areas of expertise to help inform future planning. There will be additional engagement opportunities in the coming weeks, so you may see groups of planning representatives at RUC as part of that work.
Radford University will continue to share details as this work develops, and we look forward to continued collaboration to strengthen our region’s workforce pipeline to train tomorrow’s healthcare leaders.
