Chief Ed Watkins To Retire After 40 Years
Congratulations to Chief Ed Watkins on his upcoming retirement.
After more than 40 years of dedicated service to Carilion Clinic, Ed Watkins, Chief of Police, announced his plans to retire effective Nov. 1.
Ed began his career with Carilion Clinic as a Parking Supervisor. Through hard work and a clear commitment to service, he attended the police academy, became a sworn police officer, and steadily advanced through the department. Most recently, he has served as Chief of Police, providing steady leadership, strengthening public safety operations, and supporting our staff, patients, and community.
Over four decades, Ed has played a significant role in the growth and professionalization of our police department. His institutional knowledge, operational expertise, and unwavering dedication to safety have left a lasting impact on Carilion.
He will be missed immensely. We are proud of the legacy that he leaves behind and wish him luck as he moves on to the next chapter in his life.
