CRMH Plans Chilled Water Disruption Evening of Feb. 21—What it Means for You
On Saturday, Feb. 21, starting at 8 p.m., a temporary chilled water disruption is planned for CRMH South Tower to proactively replace valves that need changing.
Chilled water is needed to operate MRI and CT scan machines, keeping the equipment cool so it doesn’t overheat. It’s also used for the HVAC system, to cool the facility. CRMH has a total of 5 “chillers.”
During the planned outage, MRI and CT scan machines in the CRMH South Tower will not be available, so there may be delays in Imaging Services workflows. To ensure continued patient care, MRI machines in Crystal Spring Tower will remain online—only air handlers in CST will be affected.
The work is expected to take 8 – 12 hours to complete but impacted MRI and CT machines will likely come back online faster, in 3 – 4 hours.
When the event begins, an Alertus banner will be displayed on the top of CMC desktop screens, and Inside Carilion will have an alert page sharing real-time updates.
The outside temperature must be within a certain range to do the work—not too warm or cold. If the event is postponed, we’ll update you on Inside Carilion.
If you have issues or concerns ahead of or during the event, please work with your manager. An open Teams channel will be available during the event for department leaders to submit any issues.
