Dr. Maruf Haider Named Interim Chief Medical Information Officer

Submitted by tcholland on

Maruf Haider, MD, will serve as interim chief medical information officer following the retirement of Steve Morgan, MD, in March.

Dr. Haider has been a valued member of the Carilion team since 2023, serving as associate CMIO and as a virtualist. In these roles, he has partnered closely with physicians, clinical leaders, and technology teams to strengthen governance, expand virtual care, and advance the thoughtful use of data and digital tools to support patient care and physician workflows. His work has consistently focused on aligning technology with clinical priorities, improving access, and ensuring that innovation delivers meaningful, real-world impact.

Prior to joining Carilion, Dr. Haider held senior informatics leadership roles, including chief health information officer, at Inova Health System, where he led system-wide clinical informatics strategy, EMR optimization, and large-scale digital transformation efforts. With board certifications in internal medicine and clinical informatics, he brings both clinical credibility and deep informatics experience to this role.

"We are grateful to Dr. Haider for stepping into this interim position and for his continued commitment to supporting our physicians and care teams," said Don Halliwill, executive vice president and chief financial officer. "Please join me in welcoming him as we move forward together during this transition."
