Snow, Sleet, and Ice… Oh My!
A huge thank you to our Facilities teams across the Carilion sites who worked through a tough and unforgiving winter weather event.
This storm wasn’t a clean snowfall — it was heavy, mixed precipitation with sleet, which is one of the hardest conditions to manage. The weight of the precipitation made removal very challenging. Despite that, our teams stayed after it — plowing, pushing, salting, troubleshooting equipment, and adapting in real time to keep our campuses accessible and safe.
The work doesn’t stop with the storm. With very cold temperatures expected this week, conditions will remain challenging, and our Facilities teams will continue monitoring, treating, and responding to keep patients, staff, and visitors safe.
This is demanding, physical, often unseen work — done in the cold, at all hours, and under pressure.
Thank you for your dedication, resilience, and commitment to serving our communities.
Facilities truly are the wizards behind the curtain
