Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are Here
The Leapfrog Group has published its Hospital Safety Grades. CFMH received an “A” grade, while CRMH and CNRV each earned a “B” ranking.
All three hospitals performed better than the Leapfrog mean across multiple and varying measures, contributing to the recent news that Virginia is ranked second overall among states in the Fall 2025 Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Grade rankings.
Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, and the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
CFMH, CRMH and CNRV meet the criteria to be included in the Leapfrog rankings. Our other community hospitals are not included in the ratings because of their size.
Our ultimate goal is for all qualifying hospitals to achieve an “A” grade by 2028. Due to the lagging reporting period for these grades, it’s important to consistently prioritize patient safety and do the hard work now.
The latest ratings are just one tool of many that patients can consider when making healthcare decisions such as choosing a hospital.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring. It is one of many ratings we pay attention to in our quest for exceptional quality and patient safety.
