Excellence in Action: OPAT Team’s Patient Advocacy

Submitted by mgomezdelaespri on

OPAT infectious disease team, Brittany Gurley RN and Kathleen Van Schoyck LPN,  went above and beyond for patient care and advocacy.

After a patient was discharged home on IV antibiotics, he quickly became unreachable,  with no working phone, no safe home support or local resources, and a clogged PICC line. The OPAT staff refused to give up. They coordinated a sheriff’s well-check, discovered the patient had gone without therapy, and intervened to help him get the care he needed with coordination with CNRV. Their persistence ensured he received the needed care.

Patient advocacy and teamwork at its finest, thank you, OPAT team!
