CGCH Celebrates 75 years of Service & opening of Time Capsule from 2000

Submitted by jdbailey on

Carilion Giles Community Hospital celebrated 75 years of service to the community on August 22nd. Many former employees, physicians, Board members, and community members joined the celebration to reflect on the legacy and impact of CGCH. During the event, a time capsule from the year 2000 was opened.

The time capsule, formed in the year 2000 under Morris Reese, Hospital Administrator, marked the 50th anniversary of CGCH. It was full of historical treasures, including newspaper clippings, hospital blueprints for the proposed new facility, patient menus, room and board charges, and general patient care items such as IV catheters, blood culture bottles, and many others.

To unveil the capsule's contents, Kristie Williams, Vice President, was joined by Dr. Michael McMahon, a former CGCH physician and Chief of Staff, who served for over 38 years.  The CGCH Employee Recognition Council helped plan and coordinate the event.
