Going the extra miles....literally
I would like to take a moment to recognize Robby Shorter for his outstanding dedication and compassion. Robby is an exceptional nurse, and his actions over the weekend truly exemplify what it means to go above and beyond for our patients.
While working in the Transfer Center, Robby received a call from a facility regarding a patient who needed a minor procedure done, but their facility did not have the necessary equipment, and they were seeking a transfer. Recognizing that this would be a lengthy and unnecessary process, Robby immediately began exploring alternatives to avoid the transfer. He quickly developed a plan to help the patient receive care without the disruption of being moved. After his shift, he arranged to pick up the needed equipment from one facility and deliver it to the facility that the patient was currently at himself—ensuring the patient could be treated promptly and appropriately, while also conserving valuable system resources. The fact that Robby had committed to orchestrating this on his own time speaks volumes about his integrity, selflessness, and dedication to patient-centered care.
Robby embodies the core values of nursing. His commitment to doing what’s best for the patient, even when it means going the extra mile—literally. He went out of his way, somewhat off the beaten path to ensure that the patient was taken care of.
