How long have you worked at Carilion?

How does your job contribute to patient care and/or Carilion’s mission?
I work in the front office, including billing and charge entry. I work with patients daily, whether it's on the phone or in the office, helping with obtaining appointments or if there are billing issues.
What is your favorite thing about working here?
I enjoy being able to take care of people and helping them however I can. The environment here in our Hillsville office is very inviting and friendly. We have a great staff.
Describe a typical day in your job.
I am involved in helping patients obtain appointments, be it at our Hillsville Medical Center or one of our sister locations. I work billing queues to do charge entry, primarily for the Hillsville office, but I also help our sister clinics.
How are you involved in your community outside of work?
I play piano at my church, and I enjoy our local wellness center and the walking trails we have.
What’s one thing that would surprise people about you?
Not a lot. I’ve been around for a long time!
Name someone at Carilion who has had an impact on your career or who has inspired you.
There are too many to name. I have had the privilege of working with some of the best over the years.
How has Carilion changed over the years? Share a memory about Carilion that newer employees might not know about.
I started my career before Carilion became what it is today. There have been numerous changes over the years, all for the best. Early in my time here, on a quiet Wednesday afternoon, we were honored to have Tom Robertson—who was CEO of Carilion at that time—walk into the clinic. He told us he was making a visit to all of the outlying offices to introduce himself. Our manager at that time was blown away that someone in his position would take the time to visit.
