Expanded Emergency Department Now Open at CRMH
The expanded ED is now open at CRMH as the first phase of opening the Crystal Spring Tower. CRMH is the region’s only Level I trauma center, designed to serve high-acuity patients. This expansion will make our ED one of the largest in the commonwealth.
When the expanded ED opens, there will be a new entrance for dropping off patients. We have created a video to help with wayfinding.
This building is equipped with special features to make the hospital experience more comfortable for patients and families. Key features include:
- 5 trauma bays, including the region’s first dedicated level I pediatric trauma bay
- 125 ED beds, including an expanded co-located ED observation unit
- Dedicated pediatric emergency waiting area, triage space and patient rooms
- New, additional helipad
The new 550-space garage at the corner of McClanahan Street SW and Jefferson Street SW is now open. The covered bridge over Jefferson Street remains closed until the tower is fully open later this summer. The sidewalk on Jefferson Street is open for employees to walk between the garage and CRMH.
