Road Closures and Detours in Roanoke for Blue Ridge Marathon
Make sure to give yourself extra time if you will be heading to CRMH this weekend. The Blue Ridge Marathon is taking place on Saturday, April 12.
Following are road closures, detours and parking information that may affect your route to CRMH and other Roanoke-area facilities over the weekend.
Road Closures
Unless otherwise indicated, the entire road is closed to traffic for the times listed. If only a portion of the road is closed/open, it will be indicated along with the direction of travel.

Saturday, April 12 Road Closures
- Jefferson Street (from Church Avenue to Franklin Road): 5:30 – 8:30 a.m.
- Jefferson Street (from Franklin Road to Elm Avenue): 5 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- Jefferson Street (from Elm Avenue to Walnut Avenue): 7 – 10:30 a.m.
- Franklin Road (Second Street to Jefferson Street.): 5:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- Franklin Road (Jefferson Street to Williamson Road): 5:30 – 8:30 a.m.
- Walnut Avenue (from Jefferson Street to JB Fishburn Parkway): all lanes closed 7 – 10:30 a.m.
- JB Fishburn Parkway (road up to Star): 7:30 – 11:30 a.m. (or when last runner clears the road)
- Mill Mountain Parkway: 7 – 11:30 a.m. (or when last runner clears the road)
- Wiley Drive (next to Rivers Edge Sports Complex): 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
- Luck Avenue (eastbound, from Sixth Street to First Street): 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- Bullitt Avenue (eastbound lane, from First Street to Jefferson Street): 5:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- Elm Avenue (First Street to Williamson Road): 7 – 8:15 a.m.
- Laurel Street (southbound lane, Riverland Road to Walnut Avenue): 7 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
- Laurel Street (northbound lane, Camilla Street to Walnut Avenue): 7 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
- Ivy Street (northbound lane, Camilla Street to Walnut Avenue): 7 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
- Ivy Street (southbound lane, Riverland Road to Walnut Avenue): 7 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
- Camilla Street (eastbound lane, Ivy Street to Sylvan Avenue): 7 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
- Peakwood Drive (the “uphill” lane, entire length): 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- West Ridge Road (the “downhill” Lane, Peakwood Drive to Rosalind Avenue): 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- Cars will be allowed to travel UP West Ridge/Rosalind and DOWN Peakwood. West Ridge from Peakwood to the top will be open.
- Alleys between Elm and Luck: 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- Mill Mountain Zoo will be open for business at noon.
No-Parking Zones
- There will be several areas marked “No Parking” for the event on Friday and/or Saturday. They are shown in blue on the map above.
- Major NO PARKING ZONES include:
- Avenham Avenue (northbound side from Clydesdale to Broadway)
- S. Jefferson Street (southbound side from 24th Street to McClanahan Street)
- Highland Avenue (eastbound side from Franklin Road to Fifth Street)
- Highland Avenue (westbound side from First Street to Franklin Road)
- Walnut Avenue (eastbound side from Belleview Avenue to Sylvan Road)
- Several areas downtown
- There will be many additional stop signs in place along the route in South Roanoke and Old Southwest. Please drive slowly, be alert for new stop signs and always yield to runners.
