Carilion Clinic Hospice Honors Vietnam War Veterans

March 29 is National Vietnam War Veterans Day. Carilion Hospice of Franklin County honored and celebrated the bravery and service of these heroes at a special Veterans Coffee Hour on Friday, March 28. This event was part of the We Honor Veterans program.

Vietnam Veterans and their families were welcomed for a morning of appreciation, connection, and camaraderie. Guests enjoyed a delicious breakfast, a color guard presentation by the JROTC from Franklin County High School, and took home door prizes and gifts. Heidi Morris, coordinator of the We Honor Veterans program for Carilion Franklin Hospice, spoke briefly about the background of WHV, hospice veteran volunteer opportunities, and invited veterans to attend the monthly veterans coffee hour here in Rocky Mount. JROTC students each spoke about the opportunities they have had in the program, and then sat with the veterans and engaged them in conversation. Cece Varnum, hospice music therapist, led the National Anthem, and Chaplain Rick Poland gave a benediction to close the event.

Representatives from the VA Benefits Office, VA Readjustment Counseling Service, VA Suicide Prevention Office, and the Resilience and Hope (RAH) Coalition were also present, offering valuable support and resources to our honored veterans.
