As we continue to build on workplace safety measures, Carilion Police and Security are sharing resources and tips on what you can do to best foster a safe environment for you and your teams.

Whether you are walking to and from parking areas, nearby buildings, or public transportation, Carilion Police and Security encourage you to stay aware of your surroundings and take the following precautions: 

• Stay Alert – Avoid distractions like looking at your phone or wearing headphones. Always be aware of your surroundings.
• Walk in Well-Lit Areas – Use designated pedestrian paths and avoid isolated areas, especially after dark.
• Walk with Others – If possible, walk with a colleague or in a group. There is safety in numbers.
• Trust Your Instincts – If something feels off, seek a safe location immediately and call our department or 911.
• Have Your Keys Ready – Before you reach your vehicle, have your keys in hand for a quick entry.
• Report Suspicious Activity – If you see anything unusual, notify our department immediately.

Security Escort Services

To enhance your safety, Police or Security Officers are available for security escorts to and from your vehicle. If you feel unsafe walking alone, call 540-981-7911 to request an escort. Our officers are available 24/7 and will ensure you reach your destination safely.
